The Pigeon General Staff

The text prompt for the Itch music jam was "1000 Pigeon Army" : this led to thinking of Liszt's "St. Francis of Assisi Preaching to the Birds" (composed 1862-1865) for piano. inspired by the saint’s legendary sermon to a flock of birds, which often included doves or pigeons in art and lore. The piece’s delicate, fluttering passages suggest a mass of pigeons taking flight.

The slower passages are inspired *very* loosely by "Le Chant des Oyseaux" ("The Song of the Birds") by Clément Janequin, a French composer from the early 16th century. Published around 1528-1530, it is a polyphonic choral piece.
